Jassper Shipping drives India’s last-mile delivery market with EV-led logistics

The last-mile delivery sector, valued at over $15 billion, faces immense pressure due to e-commerce growth and urbanization, as highlighted by Redseer. This crucial leg of delivery disproportionately increases costs and pollution. Hence, the appeal for greener logistics cannot be missed. As per Ministry of Heavy Industries, India saw 1.67 million EV sales in 2023-24, with close to 3,700 electric buses among them. The central government has sanctioned ?115 billion under FAME-II and an additional ?8 billion to enable over 5,833 charging points. These reflect the nation's inclination towards clean transport and lower carbon emissions, one that logistics companies will now be required to comply with.

In the midst of this change in environment, Jassper Shipping is reinventing itself. By incorporating electric vehicles at the center of its logistics operations, Jassper is not just embracing green mobility, it is reshaping the very character of urban freight transport. The company is building a stronger, more connected and sustainable delivery network while also focusing on creating better opportunities for delivery partners.

EV-first strategy
With 58 EVs already deployed, Jassper Shipping is seeking to expand this to 150 within the next two quarters. This expansion is backed by deals with industry leaders such as leading FMCG and pharma players. The firm's EV-first business model rests on three legs: carbon saving, cost saving, and operations excellence, combined with keeping its customers satisfied with high service levels.

Pushpank Kaushik, CEO & Head of Business Development (Subcontinent, Middle East, and Southeast Asia), Jassper Shipping, says, “At Jassper, our electric vehicle (EV) strategy is not just about cutting costs—it’s about driving sustainability and empowering our delivery partners. EVs are a core part of our long-term vision to reduce our carbon footprint, manage fuel cost fluctuations, and improve partner profitability through lower operating expenses. As a part of our commitment to inclusive growth and sustainable logistics, we are creating job opportunities by aiming to onboard 1,500 new last-mile delivery partners across India over the next five years. This expansion will enhance our logistics network and help create more sustainable livelihoods. By focusing on efficiency, reach, and reliability, we are building a delivery ecosystem that benefits both our partners and our customers.”

Competitive edge in a dynamic market
Despite strong competition from logistics giants like Delhivery and Ecom Express, Jassper distinguishes itself through a ground-up, EV-first model rather than retrofitting legacy systems. Its green-led, technology-enabled strategy combined with a deep regional presence and a strong social purpose positions Jassper as a preferred ESG-aligned partner for businesses aiming to build resilient, sustainable supply chains. Kaushik further highlights how its EV logistics for e-commerce also helps delivery partners in its last-mile delivery market:

  • Green jobs at scale: Jassper’s focus on electric mobility is being translated into new job opportunities in Tier 1 and Tier 2 cities. Over time, 1,500 delivery partners are expected to be brought on board.
  • Insurance and security: Jassper offers health and life insurance, addressing the critical gap in social protection for gig workers.
  • Competitive pay plus lower costs: With EVs reducing fuel and maintenance expenses, the delivery partners get competitive pay so that employability is enhanced in the industry.
According to a Grant Thornton report, India's EV logistics industry is set to hit ?3.18 trillion (~$38 billion) by 2030 with a mind-boggling CAGR of 37 per cent. With the government's goal of pushing 30 per cent EV penetration by the same timeline, the momentum is clear. And Jassper Shipping is poised for a future that is electric and full of opportunities. Its focus on green mobility, digitalization, and human development positions it as a leader in India's sustainable logistics landscape, transforming last-mile delivery from a cost center into a competitive advantage. This shift is set to transform the last-mile delivery market by creating more job opportunities and welcoming new delivery partners, aligning with a broader vision for sustainable logistics.
