Igus Launches Compact PFAS-Tested Linear Module for Clean Automation

Igus introduces the drylin SLW-0620-Ds08, a compact, lubrication-free linear module offering strokes up to 300mm, smooth high-speed motion and PFAS-tested materials for hygiene-critical automation.
Design engineers in medical technology and laboratory automation often face challenges with linear modules exceeding 200mm stroke lengths. Such systems can become bulky, run unevenly due to small lead screw diameters and fail to meet strict hygiene standards because of lubricating grease.
Igus has introduced the drylin SLW-0620-Ds08, a compact linear module with a lead screw drive that enables smooth strokes of up to 300mm. The system operates entirely without lubrication and is PTFE-free and tested for PFAS.
The miniature linear module is designed for automation solutions with limited installation space, such as laboratory robots with moving pipetting heads for automated sample handling. It measures 22mm in height and 32mm in width.
“Many users are looking for compact linear modules that operate quickly and smoothly with both short stroke lengths and well over 200mm, without requiring lubricating grease,” says Michael Hornung, Product Manager for drylin Linear and Drive Technology at igus. “Our new, space-saving and lubrication-free SLW-0620-Ds08 miniature linear module provides that solution.”
Stroke Length, Speed and Service Life
Despite its compact dimensions, the SLW-0620-Ds08 enables strokes of up to 300mm. It supports speeds of up to 200mm/s, achieved through dryspin high helix thread technology with a 40mm pitch per rotation.
An 8mm diameter lead screw ensures stiffness and smooth operation at higher speeds. The module offers a maximum static axial load capacity of 50N and a maximum radial load capacity of 200N. Laboratory tests confirm a service life of 877,000 double strokes under a 30N load.
Designed for Hygiene-Critical Environments
The SLW-0620-Ds08 is intended for applications with stringent hygiene requirements. The system operates without lubricants. The carriage moves on plain bearings within an aluminium rail, manufactured from high-performance plastic with integrated solid lubricants to enable low-friction dry operation without grease.
All bearing points use iglidur JPF material, which is PTFE-free and tested for PFAS. According to Hornung, this prepares users for potential stricter EU regulations. The combination of the SLW miniature axis, dryspin lead screw technology and iglidur JPF supports reduced failure risk and aligns with increasing sustainability requirements.
