ABB Launches GCP100 Gas Chromatograph with Built-in Cybersecurity and AI Tools

ABB has launched the GCP100 gas chromatograph, setting a new benchmark in cybersecurity and real-time analysis of complex gas mixtures across the natural gas, biogas, oil and petrochemical industries. As part of the new GCPro series, the GCP100 supports plant operators in monitoring process stability and product quality in real time. With integrated cybersecurity features, the GCP100 transforms traditional process analytics, providing operators with secure, data-driven insights that enhance operational efficiency.

The GCP100 is the first gas chromatograph (GC) on the market to feature built-in cybersecurity and integrated Wi-Fi. Unlike other GCs, it does not require connection to third-party devices, thereby eliminating potential gaps in encryption and security. With all encryption elements embedded within the GCP100 analyser, confidential process data is protected more effectively than ever before. Cybersecurity is particularly vital for gas chromatographs, as they are widely used in critical infrastructure sectors such as energy and environmental monitoring.

“ABB’s next-generation of gas chromatographs incorporates highly innovative advances in GC technology and digitalization,” said Jean-René Roy, Global Business Line Manager, ABB Measurement & Analytics. “We worked diligently to ensure the new GCPro series would become the benchmark industries rely on into the future – and that starts with today’s launch of the GCP100. For more than 60 years, ABB has been at the forefront of gas chromatograph technology, providing real-time gas analysis for the process industries,” he added.

Designed for extensive industrial and application flexibility, the GCP100 enables operators to transform their process analytics with exceptional precision and accuracy. It offers advanced digital connectivity, low gas sample and carrier gas consumption, and reduced energy usage — allowing continuous system monitoring without adding to the technical or maintenance burden on operators. With an extended temperature range of 60°–100°C (140°–212°F) and a detection capability down to 1 part per million (ppm), combined with advanced modularity, the GCP100 caters to a broader spectrum of industries and applications.

Through advances in both hardware and software, including dynamic QR code functionality and AI-powered features, the GCP100 is designed to reduce maintenance-related downtime by up to 75 per cent. Featuring a 4-inch gesture-controlled display and a patented modular design, it sets a new industry benchmark for serviceability and ease of use.

Integrated with ABB’s AI-driven My Measurement Assistant+ and ABB Ability™ Genix Copilot, the GCP100 enables operators to instantly access documentation, error codes, and spare parts information, facilitating streamlined diagnostics, predictive maintenance, and condition monitoring.

Engineered for low power consumption of just 12 watts, the GCP100 supports industrial operators in advancing their energy efficiency goals. Its compact design enables the use of smaller shelters — and, in some cases, shelterless installations — reducing heating, ventilation and air conditioning requirements. These factors contribute to lower capital expenditure, making the GCP100 the gas chromatograph with the lowest total cost of ownership in its class.
