Boeing inaugurates parts distribution centre in India

Boeing, the US aircraft manufacturer, announced the inauguration of a warehouse facility in Khurja, Uttar Pradesh, dedicated to parts supply. Operating in collaboration with the third-party logistics provider DB Schenker, the 36,000-square-foot India Distribution Centre will aid regional aviation customers in optimising fleet utilisation, according to the company's official statement.

This new facility, one of eight worldwide, exclusively manages and dispatches spare parts for Boeing's commercial customers. Boeing India President Salil Gupte emphasised that the centre would cater to the evolving spare parts needs of Boeing aircraft in India, reducing lead times, enhancing availability, and supporting the Maintenance, Repair, and Overhaul (MRO) industry. The decision to invest in this distribution centre was initially disclosed during the Aero Show in Bengaluru the previous year.

The statement noted that the first shipment of parts from the facility was dispatched to customers in December 2023. Boeing aims to boost customer service by expanding its global distribution network, including investments and developments in regional distribution centres. William Ampofo, Vice President for Parts and Distribution Services and Supply Chain at Boeing Global Services, stated that the India Distribution Centre is a pivotal element in Boeing's strategy to provide timely parts and services to meet customer demands.

Strategically located along India's Eastern Freight Corridor, near Delhi and the upcoming Jewar airport, the distribution centre underscores Boeing's commitment to supporting growth and self-reliance objectives in India. According to Kinjal Pande, CEO at DB Schenker, Cluster India, and Indian Subcontinent, the warehouse's innovative setup addresses the unique spares support requirements of India's burgeoning aviation industry, taking into account the complexities of warehousing and logistics along with Boeing's specific needs.
