Airbus strengthens 'Make in India' with agreements with four Indian suppliers

In a significant boost to India's 'Make in India' campaign, Airbus, the renowned French aerospace company, announced on November 6 that it has entered into manufacturing agreements with four Indian suppliers. The local firms involved in this collaboration are Mahindra Aerospace, Aequs, Dynamatic, and Gardner. These contracts pertain to the production of airframe and wing parts for Airbus' A320neo, A330neo, and A350 programs, marking a crucial step in supporting the expansion of commercial aircraft initiatives worldwide.

According to Airbus, these new agreements will not only enhance global commercial aircraft programs but also bolster India's aviation ecosystem by strengthening capabilities in various technologies such as sheet metal, machining, and extrusion profiles. Rémi Maillard, President of Airbus India and South Asia, emphasised the company's commitment to the 'make in India' initiative. He highlighted India's significance as a strategic resource hub for both skilled workforce and aerospace components and services.

Maillard expressed pride in extending partnerships with trusted Indian companies like Aequs, Dynamatic, Gardner, and Mahindra Aerospace. He stated that these collaborations are essential for building an integrated industrial ecosystem, positioning India among the leading nations in aerospace manufacturing. Airbus had previously allocated the manufacturing of A320neo family cargo and bulk cargo doors to Tata Advanced Systems earlier in the year.

Airbus also noted that it currently procures components and services worth $750 million annually from India, and these newly established contracts are expected to significantly increase these volumes, further promoting India's participation in the global aerospace industry.
