Polishing Machine for Spinnerets

Spinneret is one of the most important parts in a spinning machine, constantly exposed for deposition of carbon layer formed due to fluids used in spinning machines. This needs to be cleaned up without disturbing the geometry of spinnerets, so as to maintain quality of endless filament yarn. Speedfam (India) has developed a unique polishing machine for polishing of these spinnerets. The machine is equipped with a polish plate of 600 mm diameter and has 4 workstations which holds spinnerets during polishing. Diamond powder mixed in petroleum jelly is used as polishing media and kerosene as dispensing fluid during polishing operation. The end results with this process is a bright mirror finish of surface value 0.03 Ra that can be achieved on this machine, without disturbing the original flatness of the spinnerets. Approximately 350-400 spinnerets of diameter 3"can be pol- ished in a 8-hour shift on this polishing machine. The recondi- tioning cost of spinnerets works out to be about 60 paise per piece.
