The low cost large evaporation coater has been developed to address the ever increasing demands of optical multilayered coatings. The coater uses the technique of electron beam evaporation for the deposition of various materials such as SiO2, TiO2, SiO2, MgF2, Cr, etc. The thickness of layer being deposited, which is one of the critical parameter for the end application, is monitored by Quartz crystal based thickness monitor. The objects to be coated are heated to a required temperature of deposition by infrared radiation lamp based heaters, which is cleanest, and fastest way of heating glass substrates. The uniformity in layer thickness is realised to the extent of ±2% by use of planetary rotation motion for the substrates. The coater has loading capacity of about 50 optical lenses of 2" diameter and has cycle time of about 2 to 2.5 hours. Optical based thickness monitor is offered as an option.
The large optical coater caters to an array of applications such as anti reflection coatings, anti glare coatings, UV blocking coatings, infrared reflection coatings etc.
