Innovative manufacturing and atomization process requires continuous improvement of the optical sensor in order to control the widest variety of processing by means of markings. If a clear difference exists between the marking and the background, then unambiguous recognition is possible using photoelectric sensors. In practice, however, this unambiguousness is now always present if the markings are located on strongly structured, shiny or highly contrasting surfaces. The LRT 440 is the technical design of an optoelectric sensor for detection of luminescent material and markings. The radiated light from an LED having a wavelength of 400 to 470 nm is focused onto the surface which is to be scanned using a colour splitter. With non luminescent surface, no reflected light reaches the receiver through the colour splitter. However, with luminescent materials, the blue light excites the material causing the emission of longer wavelength light which reaches the receiver through the colour splitter. The LRT 440 with standard lens is designed for nominal scanning range of 50 mm. For applications that require a longer scanning range of 100, 120, and 300 mm, suitable lenses are available.
