General Instruments Corporation offers "Elcometer" make holiday detector, Model 236, a new porosity detector in its range of coatings related instrumentation. The added Elcometer 236 DC portable holiday detector is light weight, compact and battery operated with voltage output of 0 15 kV and 0 30 kVs. The detector generates a high DC voltage, which is fed to a probe. As the probe is passed over the coating surface, flaws are indicated by a spark and audible and visual alarms in the detector and probe handle. Due to its size, weight and the wide range of probes available, the Elcometer 236 is ideal for site work on most surfaces shapes and sizes. Inspection for flaws often prevents premature coatings failure and the subsequent corrosion of the substrates. Corrosion can be both costly and inconvenient. The new device checks bitumen or epoxy on concrete, eg, storage tanks, water and sewage treatment facilities; vitreous enamel on steel, eg, chemical reactors; testing insulating coatings on oil, gas and water pipelines made from metal or concrete; and flexible membranes or concrete bridge decks. It is provided rechargeable battery earth lead, high voltage probe, handle and lead band brush probe.
