General Instruments Corpn offers dew meter, a new product for measuring moisture content of air, manufactured by Elcometer Instruments Ltd, a UK based specialist in instrumentation to test coatings and controlling coating processes. This is a new instrument for measuring relative humidity, air and surface temperatures and displaying the difference between dewpoint and the surface temperature. This instrument is very handy and useful for paint users and paint contractors before applying paint coatings. In general, a coating should be applied to clean dry surfaces to ensure a good bond and a long coating life. The climatic conditions surrounding a structure during a coating process are therefore the key to a successful process. Coatings applied at or below dewpoint are more likely to fail due to poor adhesion, bubbling or even inadequate curing than those applied to surfaces above the dewpoint. The dew meter offers simple operation combined with speed, accuracy and convenience at an affordable price together with the facility to offer certification of calibration to national standards, if required.
