Distance Sensor Using Ccd Technology

Leuze Electronic of Germany is one of the very first manufacturers to offer an optical distance sensor using CCD receiver lines as part of its extensive optosensory program. Distance measurement using the new system is configured for distances ranging between 100 and 600 mm. Remission values of between 6% (black) and 90% (white) are permissible over the entire measurement range. The sensor achieves a resolution of &243;"0.5 mm. Repeat accuracy relative to the measurement range is &241;"1%. The maximum switching frequency is 100 Hz. Thanks to an integrated microcontroller, both the measurement range and the method can be conveniently parameterized. Application specific signal evaluations, eg, to suppress sources of interface, are simplicity itself. The measured value can be optionally read out via digital outputs to RS-232 or RS-485 interface or to analogue outputs with 1 to 10 V or 4 to 20 mA. A variant also exists offering two switching output with teach-in facility, which can be used, for example, to monitor limiting values or for two-point controls. The sensor complies as standard with the requirements of protection class IP67 and is simple to install. Typical field of application includes content measurement, stack positioning, contour determination and volume calculation, package sorting, board thickness measurement in the woodworking industry and many more.
