Kistler's K-Beam sensors permit the measurement of slow movements from zero Hz (static) as well as low frequency vibrations up to 150 Hz. The company is now extending its broad range of capacitive silicon acceleration sensors with the introduction of a compact new triaxial model, Type 8392. Despite miniaturisation, there has been no compromise on the robust housing and connections of this new cube-shaped sensor. It can be powered by any DC source in the range 9 to 20 V DC. The output signals are available simultaneously coupled in AC and DC form and can be used directly without further processing. The K-Beam offers extremely good temperature stability, even at a high resolution of 0.3 mg. The measuring signal is zeroed at + 2.5 V. This means that with a full range signal of 1 V, the output signal (with DC coupling) is always positive. The sensor is available for ranges 2, 10 and 20 g. K-Beam sensors represent a tried and tested technology for monitoring bridge measurements, taking vehicle measurements and controlling tilting trains and simulators, as well as for a whole host of space flight applications. This new and considerably more compact model is Kistler's response to customer demand for miniaturised sensors capable of providing reliable measurements.
