Blind Hollow Bore Absolute Encoder

Blind Hollow Bore Absolute Encoder, HBA4 is a low cost, programmable encoder which is designed to easily mount to any rotating shaft. This single turn absolute encoder provides 16-bits of resolution over 360 degrees of rotation. The HBA4 communicates to a host via the industry standard RS485 bus or US Digital's USD-CAN bus. The HBA4 is sealed against dust and water (IP-66 rated) for operation in dirty environments. These features make the HBA4 ideal for solar power tracking applications.

The HBA4 is available with a 12mm or 0.5" diameter bore size with either a ball bearing or sleeve bushing mount. The absolute encoder slips over the shaft and is locked in place with a non-marring clamp mount. A flexible anti-rotation tether provides single point mounting for bolt circles ranging from 2.50" up to 5.00" in diameter and compensates for shaft run out up to ±0.01".

The HBA4 can be connected directly to the RS485 port on a host such as a PLC. Alternatively, the HBA4 can be connected to a PC's RS232 serial port using US Digital's AD2B or SEI-USB interface adapters. Detailed communications protocols for this product are provided (see the SEI Absolute Encoder Communications Protocol data sheet). US Digital's SEI Explorer software can be used to provide a graphical user interface to the HBA4 absolute encoder.
