Weighing only 1 kg and fitting snugly in the palm of hand, Model 227 airborne particle counter from Met One,USA, offers a low cost solution for monitoring clean rooms. It is a useful addition to the range of dust monitors from Met one, 150 of which are currently being used in India. This laserbased instrument is available in 2 sensitivities, viz, 0.3 and 0.5 micron, and simultaneously displays 2 sizes on the LCD screen. Sample time and hold time can be set from 1 second to 24 hours. It has audible and visual alarms when the count limit is exceeded. Count data are stored in the memory for easy transfer to a printer or computer. Model 227 has several counting modes for quick analysis of cleanroom conditions. Besides manual and automatic, concentration and average modes are possible. The beep mode is useful for locating leaks in HEPA filters. It has an internal rechargeable Ni-Cad battery and is ideally suited for monitoring dust in the pharmaceutical, electronic and food processing industries, besides being a boon for HEPA filter manufacturers and cleanroom contractors.
