Air-Borne Particle Counters

Air-Borne Particle Counters

With the naked eye, one can only see dust particles 40 microns and above in size. Eliminate visible dust and you have only eliminated less than 5% of all the particles that actually flow through your air space. The harm caused by sub-micron particles is as diverse as the industries that have the need to control them. The damage that they can inflict falls into one of three categories. Product Reliability: Pharmaceutical manufacturers, food processors, makers of medical devices ranging from surgical needles to artificial hearts, all rely on airborne contamination control during manufacturing. Production Yields: The semiconductor industry's ability to put thousands of circuits on a miniature chip, would not exist without the elimination of sub-micron particles. Protection of Personnel: Process vapours, Powders, combustion by-products, micro-organisms are harmful, even lethal. Airborne particle counters, which are state of-the-art laser based instruments, measure the number of particles in various size ranges and display the results as a cumulative count, differential count or concentration. Various models of these counters are available from Met One, USA, ranging in size from portable hand-held units to trolley mounted instruments with built-in printers and accessories for measuring air velocity, relative humidity, temperature and differential pressure.
