Radial Planing Machine

Shenoy Engg, a pioneer in in-situ machine tool technology, has developed portable radial planers for machining the small flanges, especially for shipbuilding industry and for other at-site, in-situ machining applications. The machine has the dual provisions for mounting – either on the face or on the OD of the job, depending on the varying profiles of the flanges. The flange facer consists of a rotary drive unit, horizontal arm and a quill mechanism for vertical depth of cut along with a control panel with operator’s console. The rotary drive unit consists of a ram type quill, having 50 mm quill movement through a motorised quill mechanism. The drive is through a 1 HP motor and worm deduction gearbox. The feed range is 20 mm to 600 mm per minute in step-less range through a VFD. The spindle (rotary drive shaft) is supported by a pair of heavy-duty taper roller bearings in the front, and by a pair of ball bearings in the other end. Mounted on to the rotary drive unit is the ram for the cross axis feed through lead screw and box nut. The step-less feed range from 20 mm to 600 mm per minute is through a VFD controlled 1 HP motor and worm reduction gearbox. The tool post mounted on the ram can swivel ±45° while taper machining. The angle can be set through a graduated collar provided. The clamping system consists of 4 clamping arms and 4 clamping legs. A brushless rotary connector ensures that the cross feed and limit switch cables do not get entangled in the rotary movement of the arm. The electrical panel houses all the drive and switch gear elements and the operator’s console contains the controls, speed/feed variation knobs and digital meters showing the feed and speed rates.
