Shenoy Engg. Offers Special Purpose Plano Millers. It is used for linear machining the inside walls of large housings like traction motor bodies. It overcomes these limitations of conventionally known methods of machining the inner walls of a housing. A used planer is first thoroughly reconditioned, so as to ensure good geometrical accuracy. Independent feed units, consisting of a motor and a worm reduction gearbox is interfaced to all the 3 axes of the planer. A ram type vertical slide with its independent feed unit, is mounted on the cross rail. On the cross rail, a 10 HP milling head, along with a detachable extended reach right angle attachment is mounted. The motors of all the 3 axes and the motor of the vertical slide are controlled by one common frequency converter for step-less feed rates and rapid inching speeds. The job-mounting fixture consists of a rotary table and a plate that has provision for accurately indexing and positioning at 45°, which enables machining the surfaces of the inner wall of the motor housing and also the octagonal pads. It can also machine the outer profiles of the housing. It is capable of heavy and accurate material removal. If the extended reach right angle attachment and the job holding fixture are removed, the machine can be used as a normal Plano miller. Automatic lubrication system for all the sliding and rotating parts, concealed counter balancing mechanism for the cross rail, hardened and ground guide-way strips for the vertical slide unit are the other features of the SPM.
