Chucks

These are accuracy adjustable chucks. Having gripped a component in normal manner, the micro adjustment screws are slackened off using the dual-purpose keys provided. A dial indicator is placed against the workpiece and the chuck is rotated until the lowest reading is obtained. The micro adjustment screw nearest the low reading is then tightened until the gauge needle moves to half the total eccentricity reading. The chuck is again rotated and the adjusting procedure is repeated until the workpiece is running within the desired tolerance. Any slackness should be taken up on the remaining adjusting screw. Once set for a given workpiece, no further adjustment is required for a similar workpiece. Repetition machining is possible with no more than 0.015 m variation in concentricity. It is necessary to always use a nominated pinion for repetitive gripping accuracy.
