Gujarat-based Cosmos Impex (India) offers a Swiss type CNC auto lathe, GE Fong GNS 1617. This can perform a variety of operations such as turning, milling, drilling, threading, indexing, etc, for high speed production of complex parts. The parts that are used for aerospace, computer industries, precision instruments, audio/video equipments, automobile industries can be produced on this machine. The work piece diameter is lesser than 120 mm and length lesser than 120 mm with wide range of operations on periphery and on ends, are the right candidate for this machine. GNS 1716 employs a high rigidity, symmetrical linear tooling system consists of 6 tool rests; four for turning and one end working device for centering, drilling and tapping operation. A major difference in Swiss type lathe is that it employs a sliding head stock with a rotary guide bush that feeds the material while tool remains stationary. As a result, long, slender jobs remain always supported at point of cutting and eliminate any tendency of deformation on work piece. The model supports 3.7 kW, 8000 RPM spindle. A built in spindle motor offers stable spindle rotation. The rapid traverse rate of 10 m/min and cutting feed rate of 3000 mm/min allow faster processing of components. The machine is supplied with bar feeder and part catcher attachments to provide an unmanned operation.
