One other advantage is the design’s pleasantly low noise levels (ROTOmax 1.5 = 63 dB). Flexible shafts deliver the full motor power and optimise the transfer of forces between the abrasive and workpiece. The heart of the shaft is a flexible core that is available in various diameters for the various applications: from 4 mm, e.g., in mould making to 20 mm for heavy duty applications in steel or turbine construction. The user can choose from a range of drives with various power outputs – from the small tool for the finest engraving to the powerful tool with two shaft connections. The ROTOmax 3.5 is designed for connection to a three phase 400 V supply, and ROTOmax 1.5, the smaller tool, is satisfied with the single phase 230 V mains. Both tools feature gentle start-up, overload and undervoltage protection, and PTC. The ROTOmax 3.5 provides a connection to a second flexible shaft with DIN 15 coupling. The speed can be set at the membrane keypad in steps of 100 from the wide range of 500–15,000 rpm (ROTOmax 1.5) or 500–25,000 rpm (ROTOmax 3.5). Hence the ideal speed can be set for all kinds of abrasives. A large selection of hand pieces expands the range of applications additionally and makes Suhner flexible shaft tools a universal system for all surface work.
