Process Equipment

The distillations systems are manufactured as per process requirements and Columns, Condensers and Receivers are designed to give optimum output. The distillation columns are made up of several components, each of which is used either to transfer heat energy or enhance material transfer. A typical distillation contains the following major components: a vertical shell where the separation of liquid components is carried out; column internals such as trays/plates and/or packing which are used to enhance component separations; a reboiler to provide the necessary vaporisation for the distillation process; a condenser to cool and condense the vapour leaving the top of the column and a reflux drum to hold the condensed vapour from the top of the column so that liquid (reflux) can be recycled back to the column. The distillation columns constitute the vertical shell housed in the column internals and together with the condenser and reboiler. In most of the large diameter distillation column & even in some specialized applications, bubble cap trays are used, to handle larger column & desired purity of the final product. The feed + reflux liquid flows from top side to bottom side over the bubble cap trays through the down comers and collected at the bottom. Required type of heat is provided & vapour rises from bottom to top through the bubble cap slots. At each stage, there is a mass transfer between liquid & gas phase, thus enriching the vapour more & more as it goes upwards. The size of the bubble cap, its specific design slotting, type of supports, diameter of column, number of stage etc. are designed for required inputs and outputs.
