Rotary Coordinate Drilling SPM


Shenoy Engineering Pvt Ltd has designed a Rotary Coordinate Drilling SPM (special purpose machine). When VMCs and HMCs are the popular solutions for most of the mass production application, conventional SPMs still prove to be the economically viable, faster and simpler solution for mass and batch production. By changing the fixtures and tooling, the same SPM can be used other larger and smaller jobs of similar configuration. A semi-skilled or even an unskilled operator can operate a SPM. The availability of HMI (human machine interface) for accurate and rapid positioning of the servo axis helps the little-trained, semi-skilled operator to select a host of machine features like pitch selection, selection of cutting parameters etc. Machining centres have innumerable capabilities; but most of them are not useful when mass-production is not involved. Mass production needs a simple, operator friendly machine with low investment, but without compromising the productivity both in terms of accuracy and quantity. The company, keeping this as the target, has designed this SPM. It drills accurate holes on varying angles of a particular PCD on a bonnet of a valve.

  • Combination of 2 servo controlled axes for (a) rotational movement of the rotary table, (b) cross axis movement of the drilling head for accurate positioning and pitch selection
  • All screw, box nut mechanism in combination with a gearbox for the cross axes movements of the drilling head
  • Heavy-duty 10 HP drilling head with a capacity to drill up to dia 45 mm
  • Automatic chip disposal offered optionally; high pressure through coolant system and total machine enclosure
  • Hydraulically operated vertical slide for the up and down movements of drilling head
  • Hydraulically actuated swing clamps for quick job clamping
  • Touch screen enabled HMI for quick “on machine” program selection, program editing by the operator
  • Male sliding surfaces are with case hardened guideway strips and female sliding surfaces are with turcite lining for smooth axes movement and best wear resistance
  • Centralised automatic lubrication to all rotating and sliding parts at pre-set regular intervals
  • Machine enclosure and guideway protection
  • An efficient, programmable, auto-cycle through the combination of PLC and limit switches
  • Ideal for drilling, milling operations of the circular components like flanges, valve bodies, bonnets, pump housings, gear boxes, turbines, etc
  • Can custom-build the machine to suit any application and any size of job.
