Remote Area Power Supply (VRAPS)

Vikram Solar offers solar based Remote Area Power Supply (VRAPS) system. Solar power is the conversio n of sunlight into electricity. Sunlight can be converted directly into electricity using Solar Photovoltaic's (SPV). Since solar radiation is intermittent, solar power generation is usually combined either with storage or other energy sources to provide continuous power. This solar power can be stored in a battery bank and consumed whenever required. For grid connected system there is no requirement for storage as the power generated is fed into the grid directly through power electronics. There are ~ 2 billion people around the world without electricity. They live their life in one continuous, never ending blackout. The most amazing thing is that people are being born at a faster rate than they are being electrified. Even many "electrified" villages around the world have diesel generators that run only 3-6 hours a day. They have electricity during the evening only, so they don't have power during the day for schools or industry. Often, the homes have no light switches. When the diesel generator is on their lights are on, and otherwise off. The technologies of solar, storage, and power conversion have matured greatly over the last twenty years. It is now quite reasonable, cost effective and common, to use solar power to provide electricity to areas not served by the power grid. The capacity of these systems varies starting from a few hundred watts to several kilowatts depending on the load and hours of usage per day. Appliances like lights, fans, TVs, computers, kitchen appliances, music systems, cable TVs, refrigerators, vaccine preservation and many others can be safely run on the solar systems. Applications: health centres, power for telecom tower, village electrification, community lighting, navigational aids, offshore power, railway signalling/lighting, telecommunication/telemetry, domestic lighting, corrosion protection/cathodic protection, shops and business establishments, cable TV operators, centralised security lighting.
