Transformer Oil Reclamation Unit

Transformer insulating oil (Petroleum based mineral) during service undergoes changes in physical, chemical and electrical properties due to ageing and contamination. Impurities like acids, moisture, sludges, polar contents contaminate the oil. At present these impurities are removed through normal filtration and reclamation (Chemical) process.
Existing filtration systems are reducing physical impurities & moisture and unable to remove acids, sludges etc. which are responsible for fast deterioration of oil and affect active service life of the transformer. At present these impurities (acids, sludges, polar content) are removed by chemical treatment called reclamation. This process is complex, requires shutdown, cost intensive and has lower yield. ERDA has designed an online reclamation unit which can be incorporated in any existing oil filtration unit. It is based on absorption of oil impurities by an absorbent mounted in oil flow line of standard oil filtration unit. This unit is developed by Sumesh Petroleum , Vadodara in technical collaboration with ERDA.
It has been observed that the modified unit is more effective in removing polar compounds, moisture, acids and sludge. Properties of post treated oil show considerable improvement in insulation resistance, dielectric dissipation factor, IFT and acidity as compared to normal filtration process. This process is environmental friendly.
