A precision electromagnetic weighing balance having 0.05 gm least count determines density of test samples using Archimedes principle. Pour the test samples, measure the densities, calculate the density index (D1) as per the formula. When the D1 is below 5%, the casting to be poured will be free of pinholes. If it is more than 5% the melt has to be degassed once again to bring down the DI. No band saw cutting of samples, no polishing of samples for observing pin holes.
