The refrigerant, usually non-toxic, can absorb a considerable amount of heat, since its enthalpy of fusion is high. This product is used during the transportation and storage of medicines including vaccines, perishable goods, foods including meat, fish, flowers etc. This pack contains chemicals which have to be activated by putting into the freezer before usage. Product is free from degradation up to 48 hrs. It can be reactivated by freezing it again. Products which need to be transported in cold chain of subdued temperatures shall be packed in between ice gel packs. It is commonly used as a cold compress to alleviate the pain of minor injuries or in coolers or insulated shipping containers to keep products cool during transport. Ice packs are used as coolant to keep perishable foods (especially meats, dairy products, eggs, etc) below 5°C when outside a refrigerator or freezer.
