Electromatic Engineers offers an electromagnetic Clutch and Brake Combination, Types UCB-E, UCB-T and UCB-O Series. Clutch brake combinations are used where intermittent operations are required. These combinations consist of UFB (normally off brake) as well as UFC (normally off clutch). These types of units operate on DC voltages. No slip rings, hence virtually maintenance free throughout there life. It is possible to set air gap without dismantling the unit. UCB-E type of combination is totally encased unit with split shafts. Working: in normal condition drive is isolated from driven load and rotates freely. Once power is supplied to the clutch coil, armature shifts from brake stator over the air gap towards the clutch coil and clamps with the clutch rotor thus acts as single unit and torque gets transmitted from drive to driven load free from backlash. Similarly when power is withdrawn from the clutch coil and supplied to brake coil, powerful magnetic field forces the armature plate to slide back towards the brake stator, and hence braking takes place. On switching off power supply to clutch/brake coils, pre-stressed springs pull back the armatures. In both the conditions the predetermined air gap plays an important role. Applications are in various machines. Salient features: easy airgap adjustment, absolutely noise free, insulation class `F’ (155ºC), long life, easy to fit arrangement, unique rivetless armature for zero backlash, special sealed bearings, broad surface area for better heat dissipation, high operating frequency, non-asbestos friction liners.
