Smart Systems offers an Automatic Viscometer. The accuracy of the measurement of viscosity depends on two most important factors, viz., accuracy and stability of the temperature of the bath, and accuracy in the measurement flow time of the fluid in the viscometer. With the development of digital PID temperature controllers, the problem of accuracy and stability of bath temperature has been solved to a greater extent. Accuracy in the measurement flow time has by and large been not addressed. The system of automated measurement of flow time is available only in high end automatic viscosity measurement systems. These systems are quite costly and are not made in India. Measurement of flow time manually has always been the weakest point. It has always been prone to large inaccuracies. Results have therefore; invariably differed from operator to operator as well as from test to test, due to manual errors. The automatic Viscometer developed by Smart Systems totally eliminates the need for manual measurement. Flow time is measured electronically with the help of specially designed optoelectronic-sensors. The system comprises of viscometer module and controller unit. Viscometer module consists of a viscometer fitted with optoelectronic sensors and connector. Holder is fixed on the viscometer, making it a completely interchangeable unit. The systems does not require extra oil bath, the old bath can be used. This saves the cost of extra bath as well as extra space in the laboratory. Controller unit has LCD display and a key pad for human interface. It consists of 8 bit microcontroller for sensing liquid level and counting the time in milliseconds, for the liquid to flow from upper level to lower level or vice versa. The flow time is multiplied with the constant and the viscosity is displayed on the display. Viscometer number, constant, time of flow and viscosity in Centistokes (Cs) is displayed on four line LCD display. The results can also be printed if required. PC interface is also available for operating the instrument through PC and for storage of test results. Three models are available: AVM-T1 for transparent/translucent liquids like HSD, lube oil, transformer oil, etc; AVM-O1 for opaque liquids like furnace oil, RFO, LSHS, bitumen, etc; and AVM-C1 Combo Model for transparent/translucent as well as opaque liquids.
