Sikora India offers a precise Temperature Measurement System, Wire-Temp 6000. In cable production, it is often required to preheat the conductor prior to the extrusion process. Reasons might be on the one hand, to ensure optimum adhesion of the insulation on the wire, on the other hand, especially at the insulation of the wires for high-frequency and data transmission, in order to stabilise and to control the foaming of the insulation. Also, during the extrusion of plastic compounds it may be necessary to measure the surface temperature to ensure that the material does not get too hot when it exits the extruder, because overheating is a risk for the formation of stains. Wire-Temp 6000, which is also part of the Preheater 6000 TC, is now available as an independent online measuring device. The Wire-Temp 6000 measures the temperature of metallic as well as the surface temperature of insulated conductors, or round plastic products continuously on a non-contact base. Designed for diameters from 0.15 mm to 5 mm (Wire-Temp 6005), alternatively from 1.50 mm to 50 mm (Wire-Temp 6050), the system is laid-out for product temperatures up to 150°C, optionally up to 250°C. The measurement of the temperature is independent of the cross section, the material and the surface structure. A big advantage over conventional systems is that the temperature measurement is made by means of a non-contact thermal image sensor in an infrared camera, which detects the conductor or product reliably and provides accurate measurements with no need for calibration. Outstanding features: non-contact temperature measurement; can easily be installed in new lines and retrofitted into existing lines; easy to operate, no calibration; temperature display and operation directly at the device; and no wearing parts.
