It is a solid-state welding process that uses electrical resistance and mechanical pressure to form the weld. Transformers pass current through an electrode into the work pieces until the faying surfaces are heated to an almost molten state. It is used to join similar and dissimilar metals, primarily steel, stainless steel, titanium, and aluminium.
