DSM Engineering Plastics offers 2 new high performance plastics to replace alternative materials, mainly metal and rubber. The new plastics - Stanyl - A Polyamide 46 and Arnitel - A TPE- E, is a polymer suitable for high temperature applications and has high strength, an excellent wear and friction behaviour as well as resistant to oil and grease. A material, which is half the weight of aluminium and one-fifth that of steel, Stanyl can be converted into a finished product in one-step operations as against multi-step operations, needed with metals. It has already replaced metal parts especially in the auto industry world over. It is also a preferred material for electronic components the world over. The other material, Arnitel is a thermoplastic material with the softness of rubber and performance of thermoplastics is durable and flexible even under adverse performance conditions. The product with a life many times that of rubber has applications in the automotive, consumer durables, optical fibre as well as electrical coating applications.
