You consume what you generate, and generate what you need. The catch here is, there could be low generation troughs in cloudy weather, and, obviously no generation at night.
At such times, the excess power generated during the day can be used from storage batteries. This adds another layer of investment and maintenance to the system, inflating the initial and running costs to some extent.
