Multi-spindle Automats
The Wickman range of multi-spindle autos comprises ten bar machines of capacities from 3 to 80 mm and five chucking automatics, with capacities up to 235 mm. The fifteen capacity sizes have been designed within only five basic frame sizes – a fact that provides a very important user benefit. In general, Wickman tool holders, equipment and attachments are designed to suit a particular machine frame size; this means that tool holders, attachments and other equipment can not only be interchanged between machines of the same capacity but can in most cases also be interchanged between machines of the same frame size. Stores holdings can therefore be drastically reduced. Salient features: ‘no-cam-change feature’ makes the machine extremely versatile and has transformed the basic economics of multi-spindle automat; quadrant linkage mechanism permits the strokes of all cross-slides, independent slides, and turret to be changed in a few minutes; the versatility of the Wickman multi-spindle auto is further enhanced by the availability of ‘optional extras’ such as spindle stopping when cross-drilling, milling or cross-tapping is required, and spindle positioning for end-or cross-working in positive relationship to a component feature; and double bar feed can be provided in stations 3 and 6 of the 6-spindle autos for the production of simple work which can be completely machined in three stations. Long bar feeding features are also available for the production of relatively long components requiring more than, for example, the standards 7-inch feed of the 1 3/8” and 1 3/4” six-spindle autos.
