JAKOB Antriebstechnik GmbH, Germany, has launched a Modular System for Safety Couplings. Due to the constantly increasing automation and dynamics of modern work processes, the devices, which protect the complex and expensive units against resulting damages in case of errors are increasing in importance. JAKOB safety couplings reduce expensive machine damages, repairs and down time by acting as torque limiters and overload protection, absolutely reliably. JAKOB safety couplings are the life insurance for machines, no matter whether the error is due to incorrect operation, programming error, material overload or tool breakage. A result of decades of continuous research and development as well as the experience gained from thousands of different applications worldwide, these couplings are structured as a modular system. The modular safety coupling system consists of three standard series, each of which when combined with different attachments result in customized solutions for the specific requirements. For indirect drives, pulleys, gears, etc., can be mounted on the couplings to customize it for the application. For direct drives the safety coupling unit can be attached to metal bellows, elastomer spider or membrane hubs to obtain a safety coupling capable of compensating shaft misalignments also. The main selection criteria for safety couplings are the torque to be transmitted, required torsional stiffness, existing shaft diameters the installation environment as well as the operating factors, temperature and shaft misalignments.
