Numag Data Systems manufactures Line Drivers. These are used to extend the drive capability of RS 232 compatible signals so that peripheral devices can be kept away from the computer. Model LD-101 line driver is provided with a 9-pin plug with RS 232 interface and another 9-pin socket provides the necessary drive signal. In applications requiring line driving, a pair of LD-1s is to be used. LD-1 provides interface for transmit/ receive signals and one set of handshake in/ out signal. Normally, in line driver applications, hardware handshakes are not used to reduce the number of wires requited. Handshake in such cases is achieved by XON/ XOFF protocol. Each of the signals is optically isolated. So, there is no need to use an additional external optical isolator unit while using these line drivers. Cables to connect computer to local LD-101 and local LD-101 to remote LD-101 are to be arranged by the user, depending on the type of connectors provided on the user"s computer and the distance over which data is to be sent.
