These transformers are classified according to their functions and are described in the respective standards specifications. Accuracy and over load requirements for protection and measuring transformers are quite different. While performance during over load conditions are of prime importance for protection types, accuracy of the stepped down or stepped up values of current and voltages become most important for metering types. The burden for these types of transformers is the loads in volt-amps required to drive the instruments or protective device.
