Igniters

Igniters

The starting voltage for most high-intensity discharge (HID) lamps, especially metal halide and high-pressure sodium types, is higher than the mains voltage. Igniters provide the necessary high voltage to start such lamps. The high-voltage pulse varies from 1 to 5 kV depending upon the type of the lamp and is inhibited when the lamp starts. ATCO igniters are manufactured in accordance with IEC 926 and IEC 927, the International Standards specifying performance, general and safety requirements for starting devices. Similarly, ATCO HID ballasts are manufactured in accordance with and compliance to IEC 922 and IEC 923. The company provides an extensive range of igniters to suit most requirements, including high-energy superimposed multipulse igniters, which are necessary for starting many of the "new generation" lamps. Igniters with built-in timers: Towards the end of their life, lamps can require repeated ignition cycles to start the arc. This repetition not only distracts people working in the are
