Haydon Switch & Instrument, Inc has introduced the new 28000 series (Size 11) double stack external hybrid linear actuator. The rotating acme stainless steel lead screw is incorporated into the motor's rotor. Shaft to lead screw couplers are not needed with this design, thus saving time, money and labour during assembly into the final application assembly. Haydon's external linear actuator replaces four different components ? a motor, coupler, lead screw and nut. The nut on the external linear actuator uses the same high performance engineering thermoplastics as the rotor drive nut of Haydon's non-captive and captive designs. This feature ensures trouble free, exceptional long life operation for use in high precision applications. This double stack external hybrid linear actuator is available in a wide variety of resolutions ranging from 0.000125? (.003175 mm) per step to 0.002? (.0508 mm) per step and delivers thrusts of up to 30 lbs (133 N) without compromising long life or cost. A standard external linear has 4" of visible lead screw, however lead screw length and termination, as well as external nut design, can be customized to fit user application requirements. In this design, the lead screw is an integral part of the motor with a mating nut translating along the screw. As the motor steps, the lead screw rotates but does not advance. This is the best overall design approach for obtaining linear travel in confined spaces. The lead screw ends can be machined to allow the use of out-board bearing support for long lead screw lengths. Typical applications include medical equipment, X-Y tables, automation of any kind, valve control and many more.
