Concept Engineering, manufacturer of heat transfer equipment, offers finned Hollow Rod Type Turbulators. These are especially useful when the liquid in the tube is very viscous and also where the viscosity varies greatly with temperature. In such a case the liquid near the tube wall develops a very high viscosity and forms a tunnel through which the hotter lower viscosity liquid passes through. This viscous layer becomes a barrier to heat transfer. The finned hollow rod type turbulator has been designed for such applications. It consists of a tube whose ends have been blocked off forming a hollow rod. This hollow rod is then finned with oval loops of wire (like in the rigid centre rod wire turbulators). With this type of loop it is possible to give a very high concentration of loops. Disadvantages: not suitable for very high temperature as depending on type of solder used, it will melt at 190/290°C; and cannot be used for tubes with a diameter of less than 1” OD. Concept Engineering specialises in designing and making wire wound fin tubes and turbulators of all types. It can design heat exchangers that will use these tubes and turbulators, but its capacity to design and manufacture fin tubes and turbulators exceeds the capacity to make heat exchangers. The company prefers to work in partnership with customers’ worldwide where it provides the design and material support, while they do the fabrication of heat exchangers. To assist fabricators who wish to add exchangers to their range, it also provides precision CNC drilling of tube sheets and baffles for local assembly; and designs the exchanger and supplies all the required components for local assembly. In the past this has included bought out components like tube expanders, dished ends also.
