Graphite sheets, seals and foils made out of expanded graphite flakes have certain unique properties. They are impermeable to gases and fluids, self-lubricating, do not age or creep, and can withstand high pressure and high temperatures, besides being highly resilient. Further they do not flow on heating, do not expand or contract on thermal treatment, are non- corrosive and compensate for surface irregularities in metal surfaces. These properties can be used to manufacture cylinder head gaskets for automobile industries using reinforced graphite sheets. Further, these products can be easily cut and punched. They do not stick, have good thermal conductivity and are non-polluting, besides improving electrical contacts at high temperatures. Being resistant to almost all chemicals, these products find application as superior sealing material, in fluid sealing, as thermal insulation and screen in furnaces and as sealing material in high temperature furnaces.
