General Instrument Corporation offers two models of glossmeters, Micro and Micro-Tri, to measure gloss, from Elcometer Instruments Ltd, UK. Gloss, which is an optical phenomenon, caused on the surface of objects. The evaluation of gloss describes the capacity of a surface to reflect directed light. These state of the art microprocessor controlled glossmeters combine high technology with ease of use and measure gloss by directing a constant power light beam at an angle to the test surface, monitoring the reflected light. Different surfaces require different reflective angles. These glossmeters cover the range necessary to measure any surface from high gloss to matt. The meters have the following features: give instant readings; calculate mean values in statistic mode automatically; store information for immediate statistical analysis; generate hard copy print outs of results and statistics using software package; work fast, saving on line time; are user friendly, no operator mistakes; can be switched between English, French and German languages by the user; and conform to international standards. Model Micro Glossmeter is a n economical and rugged glossmeter, ideally suited for routine testing on site or in the laboratory. It is available in 20° and 60° geometries to test high gloss or semi gloss surfaces. Calibration is almost instant and automatic. Micro Tri Glossmeter is more flexible, multi angle, multi purpose glossmeter available, offering 20°, 60° and 83° testing within a single unit. It measures high gloss, semi gloss and matt surfaces. It is hand held, small enough to slip into a lab coat pocket, yet capable of producing the most sophisticated statistics for immediate or later evaluation using PC software. Calibration is one touch automatic within seconds by means of a built in microprocessor. These can be used on domestic appliances, automotive products, ceramics, chemical coatings, flooring, metal, paper plastics, print polishes, mirrors, reflectors, electroplated parts and many other manufactured and coated products.
