Friction Welding Machine
ETA Friction Welding Machine, Model FW150/300S, is used for welding piston rods to rod-eyes of hydraulic cylinders used in earth moving equipment. This tie rod construction machine has a built-in CNC de-flash unit, which enables to turn the flash on the component immediately after friction welding. The machine accommodates rod sizes from dia 40 to 116 mm and in length 350 to 2600 mm. The maximum thickness of rod-eye held in the chuck is 180 mm. The machine consists of a steel fabricated base, cast spindle head, special hydraulic chuck, tailstock, slide table, centring vices, steady rest, auto-adjustable component stopper, servo hydraulic cylinder and a chip conveyor. A special hydraulic chuck mounted on the spindle holds the rod-eye for welding. The tailstock mounted on the frame at the right carries the hydraulic servo cylinder. A pair of tie-rods rigidly connects the tailstock and headstock and they take the entire axial welding thrust. A 92 kW, 1000 RPM AC spindle motor drives the spindle through a torque belt. The servo hydraulic cylinder delivers the necessary thrust and displacement to the slide for welding. The slide, which moves on LM guides fitted on the main frame, carries adjustable stopper and two hydraulic self-centring vices for clamping the piston rod. A hydraulic self-centring steady rest mounted on the slide supports the component while de-flashing. The linear scale and pressure transducer incorporated give continuous feedback on displacement and load to the controller. Real time control data logging and plotting is done using a high end PLC from National Instruments USA, and the control software is LabView. The de-flash unit is provided with Siemens 802D CNC system. The front panel is extremely user friendly and consists of an industrial touch screen PC with Windows operating system. Welding parameters and graphs of each weld is recorded and can be easily retrieved.
