Witte Far East Pte manufactures different clamping systems. The company offers freeze clamping chucks. Freezing takes place using compressed air by connecting to a compressed air supply of 6-8 bar, position workpiece and spray clamping surface with a thin film of water. Machining can begin 30 to 120 seconds later depending on volume and material of workpiece. With less than 4 kg weight and outer dimensions of 60 x 370 x 170 mm it is easy and fast to setup. The system is suitable for clamping sensitive parts with complicated workpiece geometry. Clamping possibilities are almost unlimited; ice can hold almost all hard and soft materials like metal, plastic, ceramic, graphite, rubber, neoprene. Holding force is up to 15 kg/cm? and therefore can be higher than vacuum or magnetic clamping. By using positioning pins and templates accurate XY positioning of parts to be clamped is repeatable. Thickness of workpieces can be checked at any time during clamping using a Z reference pin. Also it is possible to exchange freeze plates and adapt them to different machining procedures.
