Electrical Contacts

Electrical Contacts

Current Krafters manufactures a wide range of electrical contacts for use in the switchgear industry. Mechanical friction loss occurs, due to bounce on make, which is unavoidable in nearly all switching devices, and making arcs occur, which cause erosion and the danger of welding. AG/CDO is safe against welding on make for current up to about 3,000 A and therefore better than any other alloy. The tendency to welding is smaller for the sintered materials than for the internally oxidized, and reduces for increasing amount of CdO in the material. With closed contacts the contact resistance of Ag/CdO is relatively low, because the material has high electrical conductivity and because the CdO layers formed on the surface are weak and can be pierced without difficulty. The prominent properties on break are arc erosion, arc mobility and arc extinction. Ag/CdO has the highest resistance to erosion in the current range of 50 A to 3,000 A. So the arc extinction properties of Ag/CdO are particularly good and are not surpassed by any other material. The contacts are manufactured from electrolytic copper, phosphor-bronze or brass as the base metal. The tips are brazed with an automatic spot-brazing machine with silver flux and silver foil. The complete assembly is acid cleaned or silver plated with 2 microns of plating. With this knowledge the company has developed a wide range of electrical contacts for switchgear ACBs and OCBs of various types.
