Colloid mill
Colloid mill is used in pharmaceutical, food, dyes and chemicals, bulk drugs, petroleum industries, etc. Whenever batch wise production of mixing, homogenising, micronisation, fine dispersion is the requirement, colloid mill is useful because of its size, simplicity, ease operation and adaptability for handling variety of production applications. The heart of the colloid mill is a pair of rotor and stator. There are shear elements cut on the rotor and stator, which provide the energy for high order dispersion. The manufacturer carried out extensive R&D work and has come out with an advance version with optimum number of shear elements in the rotor and stator. They have provided their shear elements in 3 stages and of varied sizes. The selection of the number of shear elements and the dimensions and cutting angles are chosen for providing total spectrum of particle size, down to 5 m. The stator and rotor are machined on CNC machines providing sufficient dimensional accuracy. The entire rotating elements, such as shaft, rotor and drive pulleys are balanced for smooth vibration free operations. The mill has mechanical seal for leak proof performance for 6000 RPM and also a 3-way valve for re-circulation of the product within. There is also a facility for increasing and decreasing rotor/stator axial clearances so that the mill can be made to perform in a desired capacity. The axial clearance is also calibrated so that repeatability of the performance is achieved.
