Coimbatore-based PSG Industrial Institute manufactures a heavy-duty precision slant bed CNC lathe, which is a universal turning machine, designed for 3-shift operation. This machine which is suitable for the production of heavy turned parts incorporates computer optimised bed and high speed heavy duty spindle supported by ultra precision pre-loaded bearings, hardened and ground steel guide ways, AC digital variable speed main drive, AC servo drives, hydraulic tailstock, precision ball screws, hydraulic chuck and 12 position bi-directional turret. This machine incorporates the latest technologies in CNC drives and controls. The slant bed is inclined at 30 deg (vertical) and the swing over bed covers 500 mm. The chuck is of size 400 mm and can handle chucking job of maximum turning diameter 500 mm.The spindle nose is of type A2-8" with 90 mm hole through spindle. The range of spindle speed is 40 to 3,000 rpm. Spindle bore taper conforms to Metric 100. The tail stock spindle with bore taper MT 4 is of diameter 90 mm and has a stroke of 100 mm. The power of spindle drive motor (continuous), hydraulic motor and coolant pump motor are 11, 1.5 and 0.375 kW, respectively. The actuation of turret is electro mechanical and its tool shank size is 25 mm x 25 mm. Maximum shank diameter of boring tool is 40 mm. The time taken for indexing at 45 deg is 0.7 secs, while at 180 deg it is 2.5 secs. The positioning accuracy is +/- 0.010/300 mm and repeatability is +/- 0.008 mm. Programming/feedback resolution is 0.001 mm. The floor space required for this machine weighing 5,100 kg is 3,200 mm x 2,000 mm x 2,300 mm.
