These valves are used to retain the air in a pneumatic cylinder in case the air supply is suddenly shut off or gets disconnected. By connecting a pilot check valve in the bottom port of pneumatic cylinder or hydro pneumatic press, one can avoid an accident, as it will retain the cylinder in the home position even if the air supply is cut off without which the cylinder/press would drop down and injure the operator.
