Carbon Durability Testing Machine


Jaycee Industries has developed a carbon durability-testing machine to test carbon-coated content on the carbon paper and to visually inspect for the number of impressions that can be made on a white bond paper. It is a simulation of writing with a ball pen to get carbon impression on white paper. Instead of a ball pen a small roller performs a straight-line zigzag reciprocatory motion on the white paper. The ball rotates freely inside the housing. The ball along with housing is under pressure in a direction perpendicular to surface of white paper. Pressure on the ball is adjustable as per the requirement. The carbon paper is placed on a split shaft (specially designed to hold carbon) with its carbon?coated surface facing external. A white bond paper strip of size 330 x 32 mm is passed between rubber rollers and over the split shaft with carbon paper. One end of strip is clipped to pulley, which is under constant tension by a spring. The whole system works on a single-phase 0.25 HP motor, which makes the ball to produce a reciprocating motion through a couple of interlinked minute gear reduction. As the system is switched on, the white paper strip moves continuously with carbon impression being made on the inner surface of the strip. Approximately about 13 to 14 impressions are being made. The darkness of the impression goes on reducing starting from 1st and becomes lightest on the 14th impression. After the last impression the machine automatically stops because of limits switch provided. Remove the strip and visually inspect the impressions. This helps to decide and check consistency in impression quality and also to take appropriate online process adjustment (if required). The whole process takes not more than 5 minutes including cutting carbon paper, strip feeding and completion of the whole testing process per strip. It is a small delicate but easy to use equipment with minimum maintenance. Regular oiling and cleaning will enhance the life of the equipment.
