Brushless Servo-Amplifier

Brushless Servo-Amplifier

Copley Control's Model 5211V brushless servo-amplifier incorporates a voltage-to-frequency converter that generates a velocity feedback voltage from existing digital signals. Method dispenses with motor-driven tachometer otherwise required for feedback generation. Model 5211V develops ±170 V at ±10 A peak, and ±5 A continuously. Dimensions are 6.58"x 3.83"x 1.37"and weight is 1 lb. The unit uses colour LEDs for status indication, and is protected against overload, overtemperature, and under/over supply voltage. A current sense circuit provides an analogue output voltage (±6 V @ ± 10 A), for remote monitoring. An internally-mounted daughter board develops velocity feedback from the motor's digital (Hall-effect) commutation signals. Additionally, the daughter-board can be configured to use signals from shaft angle encoders. Copley's Model 5211V operates at 25 kHz switching frequency, which permits 3 kHz, bandwidth, and accommodates motors with 0.2 mH-40 mH inductance. High switching frequency also minimises motor hum. The amplifier develops four-quadrant power from a single-polarity 24 V to 180 V DC supply. Model 5211V energises pick-and-place machines, semiconductor fabrication equipment, X-Y positioning tables, and other automation systems.
