Block Reactor

Block Reactor

Ramanuj Industries offers a Block Reactor for prevention of capacitor overload. Modern electronics loads draw harmonic current and cause harmonic voltage disturbance and impose high frequency noise on the power distribution network. As the reactance of a capacitor is inversely proportional to the frequency, these high frequencies can overload the capacitor resulting in its failure. This can be prevented by connecting a detuning reactor or Block Reactor in series with the compensating capacitor. The reactor power rating of the detuning reactor is usually 5%, 7% or 11 % of the reactive power. The company offers the above detuning inductors as per customer requirement (in percentage of amorphous core). The reactor can also be supplied as moulded in epoxy resin so as to be impervious to moisture, vapours and gases, etc. Advantages of its use: block reactor limits the in-rush current, reduces rate of rise of voltage in drive system, and protects against notching. The capacitor is intended to carry reactive current, but is also a sink for harmonic currents if not detuned. This is the reason for the widespread use of detuning practice today. Compensation capacitors should always be detuned in order to avoid resonance with harmonics and overload by high frequency currents. This is important for the life of the capacitor. Block reactors are life protection for capacitors.
